For years, there have been rumors that the beloved Black animated series, “The Proud Family,” would make its grand return. Today, streaming service Disney Plus not only confirmed that the show is in fact coming back, but also shared that millennial actress Keke Palmer would have a role!
According to a tweet Disney Plus made this morning, Palmer is set to voice a character named Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, a 14-year-old activist. According to a write up on Good Morning America, Leibowitz-Jenkins is the adopted child of mixed parents.
The show itself will be receiving a bit of an update, as the new title is “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.” It appears that the show will exclusively be available via Disney Plus.
“Good Morning America” also announced that Palmer will be moderating the show’s reunion panel. Fondly remembered cast members, including Kyla Pratt (Penny Proud,) Tommy Davidson (Oscar Proud,) Paula Jai Parker (Trudy Proud,) and Cedric The Entertainer (Bobby Proud) will be present. It will air at the NAACP Arts and Entertainment Culture Festival today at 3 pm EST. RSVP here.
