On Wednesday morning, Rakim Mayers, who performs under the stage name A$AP Rocky, was arrested upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport. The arrest was made in connection to a shooting that took place in November 2021.
Rocky was returning from a trip to Barbados with his pregnant girlfriend, Rihanna, on a private plane when he was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to TMZ, “the rapper flew in to Los Angeles from Barbados on a private jet, where he was met by cops at the terminal and taken away in handcuffs.”
That afternoon, officers served Rocky’s West Hollywood residence a search warrant. and left with a box filled with evidence. He was officially booked into jail at 12:42 p.m. and his bail was set at $550,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department booking report. Less than three hours after his booking, he was released on bond and his court date is set for August 17.
The incident that led to Rocky’s arrest took place on around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021, on Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue, in the Hollywood area. According to the LAPD’s official news release from April 20, “The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim.’ The release continued on to say, “Following the shooting, the suspect and two additional males fled the area on foot.”
NBC reported the victim claims Rocky shot at them “three to four times.” They believe one of the bullets grazed their hand.
This isn’t Rocky’s first run-in with the law. In 2019, he was arrested and imprisoned in Sweden after getting into a physical altercation. Then-President Donald Trump was immensely supportive when it came to getting Rocky released and called the Swedish Prime Minister to plead Rocky’s case.
In January, Rocky and Rihanna announced they were expecting their first child together. Rihanna revealed to Elle Magazine that she was in the third trimester of her pregnancy.
