On August 2, DaBaby issued a formal apology following his homophobic remarks made at Rolling Loud.

His initial comments were as follows: “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up… Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d–- in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

He was quickly met with backlash from Madonna, Elton John, Dua Lipa and Questlove and more.

“Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes. As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me—-knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance— has been challenging,” DaBaby’s apology began.

“I want to apologize to thee LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important.”

This comes after the release of his single, “Giving What It’s Supposed To Give,” which was also slammed for references to AIDS and for the title, which appropriates LGBTQ+ lingo. DaBaby said the video was shot one day prior to his Rolling Loud appearance.

After his homophobic remarks, which were made onstage during Rolling Loud Miami on July 25, fashion retailer boohooman severed ties with the rapper and he was also removed from festival lineups for Lollapalooza, Governor’s Ball and Day N Vegas.

The apology has over 200,000 likes and has the comments feature turned off.
