On July 20, track star and Nike athlete Sha’Carri Richardson stars in the latest Beats by Dre advertisement. The clip premiered during the NBA Finals.
The commercial also doubles as a debut of Kanye West’s new track “No Child Left Behind,” from his upcoming DONDA album.
“Undoubtedly, Sha’Carri Richardson ignited weeks of divisive conversation and in-depth discussions around the expectations and often dehumanization of athletes,” a press release read. “Now she’s back to show everyone what they’re missing in a new Beats spot scored and edited by Kanye West. Wearing the recently launched Beats Studio Buds, “America’s fastest woman” runs 100m to “No Child Left Behind,” a brand-new track by Kanye West from his forthcoming album DONDA. Ultimately, one thing remains clear — whether she’s breaking records or the traditional athlete mold, Sha’Carri’s journey in the global spotlight is only just beginning.”
Richardson famously won the 100m at the Olympic trials in June, but was disqualified after she tested positive for marijuana. The general public and celebrities alike rallied for her, calling for understanding of Black women’s trials.
Kanye West’s upcoming album is due out Friday, July 23.
