For hundreds of years, acrylic nails have been perfect for adding a little extra drama or flair to one’s look. Nail technicians all over the world have perfected a host of nail shapes, sizes, and mediums. Lately, there has been a new nail shape taking social media by storm since late last year—the lipstick nail.

This budding trend is super eye-catching, as the nail shape replicates an bullet of lipstick.

Most of us have seen beauty influencers and celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion rocking the new, trendy nail shape in photoshoots and on Instagram for the better part of this year. The creative mastermind behind the unique shape is Park Eunkyung, a 38-year-old nail technician from South Korea.

Eunkyung’s nail salon, Unistella, was created in 2014 and has her the most popular nail artist in South Korea. The artist says she only recently started loving longer nails and was inspired by cat eye-shaped sunglasses. In a 2020 interview with PopSugar, she said, “As I was working at a photo shoot for a cat’s eye shaped sunglasses, I thought it would be interesting to shape my nails into that shape and gave it a try.” She then added, “It turned out like a lipstick shape, so I did it on my nails immediately.”

The great thing about lipstick nails is that you can wear them long or short and also, take either an embellished route, or a more minimalistic one, and they’ll still look perfect for you.

As this new style rises in popularity, nail influencers and beauty brands alike predict the lipstick nail will be the next big beauty trend that’ll be inescapable in 2021.
