Watch Tichina Arnold’s Daughter, Alijah Kai, Put Her Spin On Tevin Campbell’s ‘Can We Talk’

We knew that actress Tichina Arnold had serious pipes, but did you know her daughter does too?

In November, Alijah Kai hit up Stevie Mackey’s “Taco Tuesday” to cover Tevin Campbell’s classic single, “Can We Talk?” Folks were blown away — the clip has racked up half a million views in less than a month.

Alijah also recently sang a few duets with her famous mom and we enjoyed every bit of it. Continuing their car singing sessions, last week Arnold and Alijah sang their version of Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need U Bad.” The song was Sullivan’s mainstream debut and was nominated at the 2008 Grammys for “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.” They also sang “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” which was another one of the singer’s first big songs.

Alijah Kai and Arnold were both recently tapped to participate in ESSENCE’s 2021 Wellness House. They talked about intergenerational healing.

Arnold has been busy: she hosted the 2021 Soul Train Awards with bestie Tisha Campbell for the second year in a row. She also is starring alongside Cedric the Entertainer on CBS’s “The Neighborhood.” She is best know for her roles on the sitcoms “Martin” and as the hilarious matriarch, Rochelle, on “Everybody Hates Chris.” The 52-year-old also has starred in a number of films, including 1986’s “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Big Momma’s House (2000), and “Hope and Redemption: The Lena Baker Story.”

Singing has been a part of a few of Arnold’s roles — remember the end of the talent show scene in the 1993 “Variety Show” episode of “Martin?” She brought the house down with her strong, soulful voice. We love to see that the gift has been passed down to another generation.
