For ESSENCE’s 15th annual Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, we honored some of the brightest stars in the industry. We uplifted Aunjanue Ellis (who is nominated for an Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards), the ever-iconic (and 12-time ESSENCE cover star) Nia Long, “Roxanne Roxanne” star Chanté Adams and ‘Abbott Elementary’ creator Quinta Brunson with love.
“Honoring breakthrough moments, emerging talent and cinematic legends have always been our guide when choosing our Black Women in Hollywood honorees,” said Cori Murray, ESSENCE’s Deputy Editor. “This year—our 15th anniversary—we proudly continue celebrating actresses championing for authentic portrayals and diverse storytelling across film, television, and streaming. Much like our theme, the Black Cinematic Universe, the power in our presence is infinite.”
The event’s hosting duties were handled by “Snowfall”‘s Damson Idris.
Will Smith presented his “King Richard” co-star, Aunjanue Ellis, with her award.
ESSENCE CEO Caroline Wanga and Deputy Editor Cori Murray also took to the stage to share stories of what this moment means to us.
Multi-hyphenate Donald Glover gave his longtime friend, Quinta Brunson, her trophy.
Film director and producer Mimi Valdes presented Chanté Adams’ award.
Of course, we had to bring out Larenz Tate to honor his “Love Jones” co-star, Nia Long.
