According to astrologists, we’re in the throes of Mercury’s retrograde.
This cosmic phenomenon occurs three to four times a year, and folks regularly chalk up their bad experiences with technology to the planet’s seemingly reversed orbit. It appears to have some sort of effect on everyone, regardless of your astrological sign. This retrograde’s dates are from February 17 until March 10.
Now, Mercury isn’t actually moving backwards, it just seems that way because it’s orbiting the sun at such a slow pace. But regardless, the month-long periods that make up Mercury’s retrograde are often marked by late night texts from your ex, difficulties with travel, misunderstandings, and glitches with technological devices. 2020’s first retrograde starts during Pisces season (and ends in Aquarius,) which is apparently an especially emotional time.
But fret not! Girls United is here to help. We’re sharing a few of our general tips to help you get through Mercury’s first retrograde of the year. Hopefully, we push you to move with wisdom and awareness.
Express yourself clearly and carefully
Sometimes when you’re not thinking about your next sentence, or you’re just trying to get your point across, you find yourself stepping on people’s toes. Now while honesty is the best policy, there’s a way to say things without making the receiver feel as if you don’t care about them. So, think before you speak.
Also, be sure to make sure that you’re taking the time to get all of your points across.
Be Mindful of Your Feelings
This is a great time to sit back and reflect on past decisions and how they have affected you. This practice isn’t about harping on mistakes. When you think back and realize how your thoughts and behavior are connected, you’re given the opportunity to think about life holistically. It’s the perfect way to guarantee that you’re not repeating the same mistakes. Growth is everything!
Also, check in with yourself. How do you feel in this very moment? What can you do to change it if you’re feeling engulfed by negative emotions? Be honest.
Practice Self Care
It’s always a good idea to take care of yourself, but we know that some people are burning out because of the grind that people equate with the start of a new year. Productivity is great, but not when you’re avoiding your personal duties and leaving yourself with an empty cup.
Set Boundaries
If you struggle with setting boundaries, Mercury’s retrograde will serve as excellent practice. As you’re thinking about your past, know that others are doing the same. Some of those people will be folks you’ve crossed paths with before, or even dated, worked with, or been friends with, and they may try to reach out. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to welcome them back into your life, and healthy boundaries will make your choice that much easier to make.
