This week, some creatives opted for garments that went beyond the basics and leaned experimental, while others stomped out the winter blues in the season’s most spotlight-stealing boots. Overall, unconventional design, statement jewelry, and thoughtful styling produced unforgettable looks that demonstrated how ingenuity and innovation drive personal style.
Aminata, a multidisciplinary artist based in Senegal and Toronto whose Instagram feed resembles a digital art exhibit, showcased her sharp eye for design by taking the hem of a pleated button-front in cobalt and pulling it across her body and around her neck. The result? A completely new garment with an asymmetrical silhouette and a diagonal “cut-out”. A light camel ankle-length skirt and blue socks worn with open-toed tabi heels complemented the top without overpowering, while sculptural gold and brass jewelry were perfect accents.
Folashade Adeyemi, a fashion stylist and author, gravitated towards the avant-garde, wearing a structured, drop-shouldered blazer with slashed sides, adding an intriguing element of deconstruction. Underneath, a cream bubble dress provided volume, while glossy black knee-high boots and geometrical bangles polished and elevated the look.
Winter fashion staples include fur, leather, cozy knits, and, of course, fabulous boots. Maysa explored a gallery at Art Basel in burgundy stiletto boots decked out with oversized buckles that went well with her distressed jorts and dark plum chiffon dress. Alani Noelle, better known as Wuzg00d, paired cow-print booties with an extra-large and extra-furry handbag, a brown shag jacket, and a pair of jeans with an additional panel of denim lining the front.
Let’s be honest; Instagram can be the best place to find your next outfit. There is nothing wrong with grabbing a little inspiration from the Internet, and these creatives brought the best style this week.
