- Zohran Mamdani makes history as New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor. He will also become the city’s youngest mayor since 1892. Mamdani campaigned on a progressive platform, focusing on affordability in support of rent-stabilized apartment units, a $30 minimum wage by 2030, and fare-free city buses. The 34-year-old Democratic Socialist secured over 50% of the city vote, beating Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mikie Sherrill Wins the New Jersey Governor Race

- Securing 57.2 percent of statewide votes, Abigail Spanberger is the governor-elect of Virginia. The former Democratic Representative defeated Republican Winsome Earle-Sears, campaigning on affordability, alongside public safety issues and her support for abortion rights, per NBC News.
California Voters Pass Proposition 50
- California Governor Gavin Newsom scored a victory for the Democratic Party after his Proposition. 50 measure passed. Prop. 50, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act, allows the state to redraw its congressional map in favor of Democrats. This serves as a direct response to the Trump administration’s influence in urging redistricting in Texas, per CalMatters.
- However, California Republicans are suing over the passing of Prop. 50, alleging unconstitutional racial bias. A lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, challenging the legality of the measure.
Democratic Justices in Pennsylvania Win Another Term
