If you’ve never experienced a fashion week, it can be described as, “intricate chaos.” Especially for the backstages of major designers, there’s nothing like the views of models scrambling to play musical chairs from hair to makeup, artists, and stylists moving swiftly from product to person, and beauty reps ensuring writers capture enough coverage. Outside of the glam room, the production team is moving across departments ensuring the day is on track, moving intensely to get immediate answers to high-priority deliverables. With all the hustle and bustle going on, finding the time to take a moment of mindfulness may seem impossible to find a moment of mindfulness but for these NYFW vets, it’s a necessity.
Whether they’re organizing their products for a smoother transition, or tuning out the noise with their playlist, remaining calm before the show is an essential way for a smoother experience. GU caught up with a few NYFW runners backstage from Area to Kim Shui to learn their techniques to remain still.

“My best way to decompress while on set is to tune in with the music that they’re playing. It gives me a moment to just breathe while I’m working. I’m moving but my mind is somewhere else.”
@iamyasminwarsame
“Meditate!”
@divine.laboratory
“I take deep breaths and know that it’ll be over soon.”
@arianascanvas
“I think it’s really important to set expectations for the beginning so everyone is on the same page. Making sure that the model’s hair is safe, helps move things efficiently, and staying organized.”

“If I feel like I’m getting overwhelmed I pause and take it all in. I remember that this is a passion and connect with the people I’m working with.”
