Essence GU’s Kickback commenced with a performance from New Orleans rapper T9zzy. The “Trip Out” artist led the star-studded concert lineup, followed by Chxrry, Moliy, and KenTheMan. DJ Summer Indigo dominated the stage with vivacious hip-hop and R&B jams that created a welcoming atmosphere for attendees inside the party.
As the Essence festivities continue throughout the weekend, nationwide visitors and Crescent City natives travel near and far to take part in what the Festival of Culture has to offer. Since the empowering four-day event began, the celebration has found a home in New Orleans, Louisiana, following its inception in 1995. Besides attending the festival functions and activations, visitors can also explore some of the Big Easy’s reputable aspects, including its lively locations and famous eateries.
We asked T99zy his top three places to visit in New Orleans during the Essence Festival weekend.
“Go to Treehouse if you want to party,” T99zy told GU. Located on Thalia Street, Treehouse NOLA is a notable nightlife and cocktail venue in the Big Easy. Besides offering an energetic DJ scene and premium bottle service, the location functions as a hotspot for international celebrities and athletes. Make sure to visit the trendy nitery for a good time!
This famous seafood restaurant is a cultural staple, designed to awaken your taste buds. Besides a location in New Orleans, the eatery originated in Lafayette and became a franchise across Louisiana and South Carolina. Fiery Crab doesn’t serve your average seafood boils; indulge in crawfish, shrimp, and lobster specials to keep your mouth watering. As a New Orleans native, I recommend every tourist to experience the seafood sensation. You’re welcome.
Triangle Deli (A Speciality Inside a Gas Station)
“The hood spots got the best food, I’m telling you.” Across the country, a gas station is pretty self-explanatory. However, in New Orleans, our definition of “gas station food” is in a league of its own, and the eateries are everywhere. Some say the city’s convenience store cuisine may even surpass the quality of restaurant delicacies. Triangle Deli, a small business diner, can offer customers a hearty breakfast setup, a steamy cup of gumbo, or a 32-inch po’boy for $24.
