The GU Kickback day party has become a new essential Essence Festival season, providing an unmatched opportunity for Zillennials to immerse themselves in an auntie-free atmosphere. With sets from DJ Miss Milan, Siobhan Bell, and Dylan Ali, attendees can expect pulsating beats and innovative mixes that cater to what we’re playing nonstop today. It doesn’t just stop at the music; we also have special guest hosts, Skai Jackson and Raymonte.
In an era where digital interactions often dominate, Kickback provides a valuable opportunity for face-to-face connections. It’s a space where Gen Z’ers can come together, share their love for music, and build lasting friendships. “I’m so excited to be hosting with ESSENCE. Growing up, the magazines were such a staple in my household, so this is a full circle moment for me,” Raymonte tells GU.
The sense of community fostered at GU Kickback and the thrill of live music and DJ sets created an exhilarating and inclusive environment. For Those looking to experience the best music while developing meaningful connections, GU Kickback continues to be the must-attend event. Check out our exclusive interview with DJ Miss Milan as we chat with her about what it takes to bring the best vibes to Essence Festival.
What is DJ Miss Milan’s secret to creating the best vibes?
As I call it the “fairy vibes,” the secret is mentally preparing yourself. You have to tell yourself, ‘You’re that girl, you’re going to do your thing, and everyone is going to love it.’ You infect yourself with that energy so you can infect others. Also, I’m prepared by making sure I have the right vibes and songs for the girls and guys. Then, of course, execution is what matters. I make sure I show up looking and feeling good, so I can give everyone that good energy.
Name three things that always need to be there for a successful set?
Water. Pretty girls. And me, duh!
For the next star to come to Essence next year, what’s one tip you can give to surviving Essence Fest Weekend?
Don’t wear any heels, and stay hydrated.
