Preserving meaningful friendships is one of life’s greatest joys. Lasting friendships require open communication, compassion, and true loyalty. It provides us with emotional well-being and gives us the confidence to conquer life’s trials and tribulations. However, as we outgrow relationships within the natural cycle of life, when is it time to let go of an old bond?
As Creator’s House 25 panelists, creators Frankie Bleu & Davey Bad sat down with GU to unpack the complexities of waning friendships in the “Loyalty Isn’t a Life Sentence” panel. When should we maintain loyalty in a relationship, or let go of a bond that may be constraining our potential?
When faced with, in many cases, a life-changing circumstance such as an impending friendship breakup, it’s natural to question if ending a bond is the right choice. And sometimes we grow at different paces compared to our friends. “Always keep in mind that everyone has their old individual paths,” Bad said. He echoed the sentiment “Life is not linear,” referring to the ups and downs of mere existence.
Bleu mentioned his relationships, admitting he experienced a shift in his personal connections. “Having people recognize you is one thing, but having people who see you is another,” Bleu responded. The creator emphasized maintaining bonds that required people who value your personhood, rather than your status. For some creators, difficulty lies in differentiating the two possibilities. “I want you to know who I am first,” Bleu stated.
