Talent sure does run in the family! On October 4, Reginae Carter – the daughter of rapper Lil Wayne and author Toya Johnson – appeared ahead of the BET Hip Hop Awards in a cypher.
The 23-year-old stole away the show by spitting 16 bars written by her iconic father himself. “Young Carter, that’s Ms. Carter, best rapper alive, you know his daughter,” she rapped over the instrumental to Missy Elliott’s track Hot Boyz. “Smokin’ on some good-good that my dad sent me.”
Carter performed in a white cutout bodysuit and dark red hair for the occasion. “All I’m really ‘bout is that life / Just got my nails done so don’t blame me from dropping that mic,” she added.
The 23-year-old is no stranger to performing. As a teenager, Reginae Carter was part of the OMG Girlz alongside Bahja and Lourdes Rodriguez, and Zonnique Pullins. Carter left the group in 2010 in an effort to focus more on her academics and keep her grades up, according to Madame Noire.
In 2013, Carter signed to Young Money and released her single, “Mind Goin Crazy,” the following year. She was featured on her father’s album Tha Carter V in 2018. She also participated in multiple reality TV shows such as Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, which she bid farewell to in 2018. She also took part in the shows Tiny and Toya and My Super Sweet 16.
