After years of waiting since the Season 2 finale, Euphoria fans have held tight to their emotional connection with Euphoria High, still wondering what became of Rue, Maddy, Cassie, and the rest of the ensemble. This spring, those long-standing questions will finally be answered when Season 3 premieres in April on HBO. For newcomers, the Emmy-winning series follows a group of teens as they navigate tragedy, trauma, sex, crime, betrayal, addiction, and fractured family dynamics.
The show not only redefined gritty teen dramas but also launched the careers of several of today’s most influential young stars, quickly becoming HBO’s most-watched series. Season 3 brings back familiar faces including Zendaya, Alexa Demie, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Dominic Fike, and Nika King. Additional returning cast members include Alanna Ubach, Daeg Faerch, Melvin “Bonez” Estes, Paula Marshall, Sophia Rose Wilson, and Zak Steiner. Among the notable new additions are Rosalía, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth, Marshawn Lynch, and several others.
Season 2 ended with one of the show’s most memorable moments: Lexi’s play Our Life, a raw, theatrical reflection of her friends’ highest highs and darkest secrets. The finale left viewers with a lot to process—a sober Rue rebuilding her bond with Lexi and resetting boundaries with Jules, Maddy and Cassie’s friendship imploding, Fezco and his brother caught in a SWAT raid, and Nate turning in his father, Cal, for criminal activity. The cliffhanger was intense, and fans have been theorizing ever since.
After years of speculation, viewers are eager for answers. One direction the show will not take? A return to high school. “The one thing we all agreed on is we can’t go back to high school,” creator Sam Levinson said. That shift leaves major questions on the table: What happened to Rue? Did she ever pay Laurie back? Levinson offered a glimpse during HBO Max’s presentation on Wednesday. “We pick up Rue [Zendaya] south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie [Kelly], trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off.”
He also teased the evolution of Cassie and Nate’s famously toxic relationship. Was their breakup final? Apparently not. The two are now living together in the suburbs. Levinson revealed a surprising twist: “They’re engaged, and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of the seemingly big lives her high school classmates are now living.”
Meanwhile, Jules (Hunter Schafer) will be in art school pursuing a career as a painter, and Maddy (Alexa Demie) is now working in Hollywood at a talent agency. Fans curious about Lexi’s post-play journey can expect to see her working as an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone—a fitting next chapter for her emerging creative voice.
The season arrives under a cloud of loss. Fans continue to mourn Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco and passed away in July 2023 at age 25. It remains unclear how his absence shaped the new storyline. Colman Domingo (Ali) told Vanity Fair in 2024 that Fezco was originally poised to play a major role. “I’m sure it affected not only the creation of season three, because [Angus] was going to be a very strong part of it… We came together as a cast many times to grieve, to mourn, to laugh and enjoy all the things we know about Angus,” he said.
If these early details are any indication, Euphoria’s return will be dramatic, emotional, and full of narrative twists. After a multi-year wait, Season 3 is shaping up to be a ride. The real question is: are you ready?
