Halloween is a holiday for the ghouls, ghosts, and goblins, but it’s also a day that the fashion-obsessed take very seriously. For one night, creatives get scarily imaginative and transform themselves into someone – or something – totally out of this world. This year, some recreated notable moments in Black culture while others put their own spin on Halloween classics. Either way, this holiday showed that creativity has no bounds. Let’s get into some of our favorite looks.
Boomerang is undoubtedly one of the most iconic Black films ever made. Featuring an all Black star-studded cast that featured Eddie Murphy and Halie Berry as the leading man and lady, Boomerang caused an uproar in Hollywood, eliciting racist remarks from critics about the absurdity of a world where Black professionals exist. Amanda Finesse, fashion influencer and event creator, paid homage to the film by recreating a look Grace Jones wore as Strangé. She got everything right, from the latex down to the unmentionables that were rubbed in the face of an unsuspecting chemist in the hilarious “Essence of Sex” scene.
Everyone loves a cavewoman. Iterations of these prehistoric, less fashionable humans are frequently referenced on this spooky holiday, but New York-based creator Ava’s version was more fabulous than neanderthal. The stiletto boots wrapped in faux fur were a particularly nice touch.
Let’s be honest; Instagram can be the best place to find your next outfit. There is nothing wrong with grabbing a little inspiration from the Internet, and these creatives brought the best style this week.
