Having a strong support system is crucial in maneuvering life’s hardships. When circumstances get tough, who can you call on for some encouragement? A soulful connection that reminds you of a life worth living. The magic of sisterhood comprises a close bond often surpassing a kinship tie; it is a lifeline of friendship. Sibling creators Sydney and Casey Winbush are taking the internet world by storm with their chronically online humor. Besides developing an audience individually, the duo frequently collaborates, blessing our timelines with humorous content.
The Wishbush sisters graced the stage with GU Co-founders Rechelle and Sophia Dennis to speak about the realities of working alongside your sibling. How can that connection continue to be nurtured beyond a professional relationship? Scroll down to read more about GU’s recap of “Partner in Prime.”
Everyone knows that sometimes mixing family and business has its drawbacks. However, for the Winbushes, it’s one of their superpowers. “Our content in general is from the basis of our relationship. We’ve always made dances and videos,” Sydney told GU. And that means what you see is what you get. “Our relationship is very similar to what we show on social media. The way we position ourselves is who we are,” Casey commented. However, what happens when you both find yourself at odds with the content you want to create? Casey replied with honesty and bluntness being the best policy, and their tight-knit sisterhood makes offering constructive criticism easier.
For some creators, specializing in a certain niche of content can be a bit effortless when authenticity is involved. Sometimes, you are the niche. Our GU moderators asked the sibling creators about their process of creating their comical content. “[The ideas] just fizzle in. I could be about to go to bed or in the shower and be like, ‘I need to write this down,’” Casey said. Many of the siblings’ videos have gone viral too. “[Going viral] never really affected us negatively or positively, it’s just something funny to laugh at,” Sydney answered. When reaching virality, the duo takes joy in connecting with other users, especially if it’s regarding their sibling content.
Being an older sibling has its moments. There’s a time when your younger sibling tries to emulate you— through your (often stolen) clothes and caring personality. Call it, reheating their nachos. That is, until you start to develop your own identity, separate from your big sister. Casey didn’t shy away from her teenage identity crisis, while Sydney admitted to learning about the latest trends and ideas from her younger counterpart.
We couldn’t end the panel without some sisterly emotion. God forbid we have a little tear-jerker prepared! Our moderators asked the ladies to voice a love letter to each other, filling the room with powerful feelings. The sisters both expressed immense gratitude to remain a part of each other’s lives. “You make life so fun and so easy. I’m so excited about all the things happening for you, and all the things people are going to see from you. I’m glad I get to be there,” Sydney expressed to Casey. I’m not crying; you are!
