Prom season is quickly approaching, and teens everywhere are making big decisions: who to ask (or whether to go solo), which dress or suit is the one, and how to prepare for a night they’ll never forget. Prom has become a staple of the high school experience—a core memory that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of “adulting.”
Before the big night, one equally exciting tradition takes center stage: the promposal. For many students, this moment has been years in the making. It offers a chance to shine through creativity, thoughtfulness, and even a little spectacle.
In honor of National Promposal Month, we’re celebrating the imaginative and heartfelt ways students are asking their loved ones to prom. The modern promposal gained traction in 2001 and has since grown into a beloved tradition. Each year, teens look forward to seeing how their peers pop the question, drawing inspiration—or simply daydreaming about how they’d want theirs to go.
Promposals typically start popping up in March, although there is no strict timeline. Whether it happens early in the season or right before the big night, the most important thing is the sincerity and style behind the gesture.
This season, the universal question—”Will you go to prom with me?”—is trending across TikTok and social feeds, with no shortage of adorable, bold, and unforgettable proposals. Poster boards, edible arrangements, bouquets, personalized gifts, and choreographed group dances are just a few of the creative ways teens are asking the question.
Whether between long-time couples or close friends, a promposal is a moment worth capturing. Confidence, creativity, and heart can make it even more special.
Here are some of the most creative and unique promposals we’ve seen this season:
