Cinco de Mayo, which translates to the Fifth of May, is a celebration that honors Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. With its rich history, we often honor the day by celebrating with food and drinks most closely associated with Mexican culture — including foods like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, but most importantly margaritas.
For those who are sober, but still want to have a tasty, good time, mocktails are the way to go! With more and more Gen-Zers and millennials decreasing their alcohol intake, here are a few mocktail options to add to your repertoire.
Classic Margarita Mocktail
If you’re a simple type of girl, this classic margarita mocktail may be the pick for you! Classic margaritas use tequila as the base, however this margarita mocktail adds club soda as the substitute.
Spicy Paloma Lemonade
Haven’t heard of a Paloma? Just think of it as a margarita’s distant cousin that’s just as tasty. The drink is known for its citrus flavor and grapefruit mix. This simple lemonade will be sure to spice up your Cinco de Mayo party!
Strawberry Mocktail
Strawberries are the perfect Spring and Summer fruit to add to your mocktail. This pretty dandy refreshing drink uses a nonalcoholic cocktail mixer and lime juice as a base to give it the citrus flavor. Add a slice of strawberry on the side and you’ve got yourself a cute drink, without the hangover.
Tropical Sunrise
Sunrise drinks are typically made with tequila which is why this is right on theme. Instead of adding tequila, the mocktail version uses orange juice, pineapple juice and coconut water. It tastes delicious and looks delicious!
Spicy Marg Mocktail
This refreshing mocktail uses Tajin to add spice and some of our favorite non alcoholic bases to mix spicy, sour and sweet together. Don’t forget to add your garnish!
