Essence Festival 2024 is around the corner, and for the Zillennials still deciphering and organizing the best spots to be at, GU Creator’s House should be the place to see what the next 30 years of Essence look like. Essence Fest has already held a legacy of celebrating culture, music, and empowerment, and Girls United is here to carry the torch and serve as a hub where these young creatives can collaborate, learn, and inspire each other.
“There was always the talk of, ‘we need to speak to this next generation to this younger generation in a way that essence can’t speak to them,’” says Rechelle Dennis, GU Co-founder. “It was really about our response to the fact that the world is constantly changing and understanding that Essence needed to be a part of that change. GU is the birth from a community of young women that wanted something like Essence or wanted Essence to be that version for themselves. That’s really how Girls United was born.”
Gen Z having a space made for us by us encourages their personal growth and contributes to the collective narrative of Zillennials being the next generation of innovators that the Essence Festival champions. “We need a space for the nieces,” Dennis says.
By attending and expressing their unique perspectives and creative ideas, Zillennials can help bridge generational gaps, fostering a larger intergenerational conversation. Here’s why Zillennials should embrace their presence at the free event that is GU Creator’s House for the next venture of the Essence Festival legacy.
